WHAT IS SIMPLICITY, CHASTENESS, AND OBEDIENCE?
Full members dedicate themselves to a live of simplicity, chasteness, and obedience. But what does that mean?
First of all, this order does not demand a strict submission to a human person or organization. This dedication we seek is to God, and to Him alone. We glory in the Cross of Jesus. This order is a means to gather those that are either privately or publicly vowed together, who seek a place to belong, while still maintaining their own individual walk with Christ, by the help of the Holy Spirit, and the grace of God the Father.
Chasteness, or simple chastity, means that we reamin faithful to one person within the context of a relationship . Some people make private vows of Pure Chastisty which means that they promise to live a life of celebacy because they feel called to do this by God . We do not require this for everyone .
Obedience means that you follow your conscience, under the guidance of God and scripture; it implies a life of no harm to yourself or to others, living a live that follows the three virtues of faith, hope and love. This also may incorporate your own church tradition as you see fit . Our obedience to God is to walk humbly before our God, act justly, and love mercy. (Micah 6:8) We strife to live the Apostles’ Creed, living the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity, and cultivating a prayer life that will lead us to produce the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Simplicity mean just that, a life that strives to avoid the excessive or the extreme. While not always available to us because of secular or personal or family obligations, we strive to live as simply as possible, setting as much time as possible for solitude and silence, having a dedicated prayer room or space of worship in our own homes, working for a sufficient living, and spending those moments of solitude each day in prayer, in silence, in study, praying for others and showing mercy to all, whether we are hermits, or seculars, regardless of our label. We are called to be true disciples for Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
We are not here to argue a singular church definition of what is private or vowed, or religious, or what a church’s definition of consecrated life is. We are here to commit our lives to Jesus Christ, and to live a life or prayer and mercy. We are an ecumenical society and are not bound by canonical definitions of one church or any divisions . However, we also do not do anything by our commitments to prayer and acts of mercy that prevents any other Associates or Members of this order from being faithful to their own church . Some members belong to a local church . Some members choose just to belong to the society and not a particular church . The society becomes their point of belonging to and communion with the Divine .
They point to the Gospel passage where Jesus is alone with the woman at the well .
He tells her she will not worship in the temple with others , but alone in spirit and in
truth . There is room in our society for both paths .
